These are exciting times for us. In our agency days, we have built numerous websites with WordPress. We did so for years. But it wasnโ€™t until we decided to make a product out of the tools that we created for ourselves, that we actually realized that by using WordPress, we are part of something magnificent: The WordPress Community.

Our experiences in the past 1 1/2 years made us realize that itโ€™s helpful for other members and aspiring community members to share our story and adventures.

We started out as speakers at Meetups, then we decided to sponsor and support WordCamp Vienna last year and this year. We also attended WordCamp Europe last year, in Porto. That was an impressive experience. Little did we know how strong and huge the WordPress community actually is. We decided to apply as an SMB sponsor for WordCamp Europe 2023, and thankfully got accepted. Well, remember how we said Porto was an impressive experience? WordCamp Europe 2023 in Athens was mind-blowing! Attending a flagship event like that is one thing, participating as a sponsor is another.

We had been thinking about what else we could do to give back to the community. A few hours participating in Contributor Day was lovely, but of course, that is not going to cut it! But jokes aside: like everyone else, we too are looking for the right balance between the responsibilities that come with our daily business, and our resources. Both on financial and human level.

Hey, we could make this sound so pretty, but we prefer good old-fashioned realism. Supporting and contributing is a serious matter to us, itโ€™s a commitment. We donโ€™t want to make promises we canโ€™t keep, and finish what we started.

WordCamp Germany 2023

As members of the local WordPress community in Munich, we were well aware that there were plans brewing for WordCamp Germany. We have been actively talking to people in the German community like Jessica LyschikHendrik LuehrsenRobert Windisch and Birgit Pauli-Haack. Weโ€™ve come to know and appreciate them as kind, passionate and very talented people.

The team that had formed to initiate organizing WordCamp Germany is pretty much scattered throughout the country. But the majority of that team was actually in Athens in June when the news broke that โ€œourโ€ WordCamp was going to happen, as it had gotten a green light about the venue, from the WordPress Foundation.

There have been city WordCamps and there was a WordCamp Europe in Berlin in 2019. But this is something very special to all of us. This is actually the first edition of WordCamp Germany ever! And the fact that most of us were in the same place when we got the news added to some of the most memorable moments we had, while we were in Athens.

Thomas and I have joined as volunteers in the organizing team

From attendee to co-organizer, weโ€™re happy to make this step and to be able to contribute to the community this way. I joined the Marketing Team and Thomas joined the Design Team.

Follow our journey!

We surely keep you posted about this new step in our WordPress journey. Weโ€™re posting regularly on LinkedinTwitterFacebook and Instagram. Who knows, maybe it will inspire you to join as active members of the WordPress Community too.
